YOUNGEST-EVER LATINO TO BE SWORN AS 2ND LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT STATE SENATOR
07/01/2016
Newly appointed 2nd Legislative District State Senator Omar Aquino will be formally sworn by Judge Gloria Chevere to replace former State Senator William “Willie” Delgado. At age 29, Aquino is the youngest-ever Latino member of the Illinois State Senate and one of the youngest state senators in Illinois history.
On Tuesday, North Side Democratic Committeemen appointed Aquino to fill a vacancy for the remainder of Senator William “Willie” Delgado’s term. Earlier this year, Senator Delgado announced he was retiring from his 2nd Legislative District State Senate seat, which he has held since 2006.
State Senator Aquino will continue in former State Senator Delgado’s progressive legacy by fighting for equitable funding for public schools, protecting the most vulnerable from Governor Rauner’s austerity agenda, and ensuring the rich pay their fair share.
