AQUINO VOTES TO REPAIR ILLINOIS' CRUMBLING INFRASTRUCTURE
06/02/2019
SPRINGFIELD – State Senator Omar Aquino (D-Chicago) voted for a plan to rebuild roads and bridges across Illinois that passed the Senate today.
The approved capital plan would modernize infrastructure throughout the state and inject more than $45 billion into the economy.
“Working class people across Illinois have paid out-of-pocket for the lack of investment in infrastructure,” said Aquino. “When roads are in disrepair, commuters pay the price.”
According to the American Society of Civil Engineers, Illinois motorists pay a combined $4.8 billion per year due to Illinois’ D-rating in infrastructure.
“By making large-scale investments in infrastructure we will not only create good-paying jobs, but make our roads safer for all motorists,” said Aquino.
The capital plan awaits the governor’s signature to become law.
